Why WordPress 4.9.4 Must Be Updated Manually

New version of WordPress in less than 24 hours !! And you have to update it manually !!

In yesterday’s post he alluded to the “lazy updates” that we had noticed with the update of version 4.9.3, not all WordPress were updated and that caught our attention, but everything has an explanation and solution, which runs by the new version, 4.9.4, which corrects precisely a problem with the automatic updates of version 4.9.3.

What has happened? Well, those responsible for the WordPress core, realized this failure once 4.9.3 had been released and hence in less than 24 hours they released a new version that corrects this failure in automatic updates.

But, there is a drawback, that the update to 4.9.4 must be done manually, so it is up to all of us without exception to go through the administration of our WordPress and manually update our facilities, if we want to have the latest stable version that guarantees that the next automatic updates will proceed normally.

You can also update directly from our Softaculous system by making a previous backup and users who have configured the automatic update from Softaculous do not have to do anything, since the system will update as soon as it is available in the Softaculous repo and you will be notified.

In yesterday’s post, we also made reference to a vulnerability that affects all versions of WordPress and that affects 4.9.4 since only the problem of updates has been corrected and the changelog does not say anything about the vulnerability patching commented, so it is not surprising that we will soon have a new update that resolves this issue without patching.

Some have ventured and released a patch for the vulnerability and it has been published on Github, but of course, it is not an official version or patch, so we cannot recommend using this patch without being official, one of the first things we learn from WordPress, is that the core is not touched.
